Lorna Nolan is the new girl on the block in our Accounting Support team based in Sydney. Having just relocated over from Dublin, we took some time out to get to know Lorna, what made her move to Sydney and what she thinks of AccountAbility so far.
How did you first learn about AccountAbility / Ambition Group?
I first learned about Ambition through a Rec2Rec that I worked with when I moved to Sydney in October. She set up an initial introduction with Mark Jones (Director) who explained the culture of Ambition to me, along with the reasons he joined the company back in January. Mark was honest, genuine and transparent with me about the history of the company and where he sees it moving in the future; which is something that I want to be a part of.
Following that, I met with the lovely Yseult & Michael of AccountAbility and the rest is history! My recruitment journey with my AccountAbility & Ambition family began.
Describe your story so far with AccountAbility in 3 words.
I am not a woman of few words so I can’t describe my story in 3 words, but I can do it in 9:
‘A stranger is a friend you haven't met yet’
What made you decide to move to Sydney?
I had been living in Dublin for the last 2 years and working in Financial Services recruitment. I had previously got the visa for Australia but was never ready to make the move, so as my 30th birthday was looming in early 2018, I realised it was now or never!
What are you passionate about?
In the most cliché and unoriginal sense, I have to say I am passionate about life - and all the ingredients which make it one to remember!
I believe life is what you make it - what you put into it, you get out of it! My father always told me the level of effort you put into something determines the result you get, and for me, this goes hand in hand with the life you lead.
Great adventures and lessons learned are never a heavy load to carry with you, but regret is a hard one to put down.
If you could switch your job with anyone else within AccountAbility whose job would you want and why?
I would switch jobs with Jen who is our fabulous receptionist because she controls the Mentos, you’ve got to stay fresh in recruitment and she’s so fresh, she’s famous!
Before working at AccountAbility what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
It probably isn’t the most unusual job in the world but to me, it was bizarre and in a place that I never expected to end up. Behind the counter of a Butcher shop in North Vancouver when I was 23.
Needless to say, I made the conscious decision that this career was not for me. I discovered that I am not a fan of freezing all day, being surrounded by animal carcasses and having to clean out a meat counter!!
It was a good day for me when I hung up my apron, hair net and knife. Surprisingly, I’ve never looked back!
