We're partnering with a well-known organisation in the education sector to recruit an Assistant Accountant for a 16-month maternity leave contract, commencing ASAP to allow for a smooth handover before the incumbent goes on leave in late January. This is a fantastic role for someone early in their CPA/CA journey who's keen to develop strong month-end and reporting experience within a supportive finance environment.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Financial Accountant and working as part of a large finance team, you'll take ownership of core month-end responsibilities while receiving full training in the more specialised parts of the role. There is no AP or AR processing involved, this position is focused purely on accounting, analysis, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Manage the month-end process, including preparing journals and balance sheet reconciliations
Build a solid understanding of the business to confidently present P&L analysis
Prepare management reports, including commission calculations
Calculate commissions and arrange payments to agents
Assist with loyalty calculations (no prior experience required - full training provided)
Maintain and update the fixed asset register across multiple business units
Collaborate closely with Accounting, AR, and college staff
Support the Financial Accountant during the annual audit
No forecasting or budgeting required - this sits with another team
What We're Looking For
Ideally 1-2 subjects into CPA or CA
Experience with an ERP system (training provided if needed)
Someone proactive, switched-on, and eager to learn
Ability to start as soon as possible to allow for handover (ideally early December)
